KIA ORA KOUTOU KATOA WELCOME TO YOU ALL

My name is Hayden. I’m a registered psychotherapist (PBANZ). I am ACC registered. I specialise in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. And, I welcome all those who are struggling with mental health difficulties and/or those who want to have a greater understanding of who they are.

My Approach

I offer an open and compassionate psychotherapeutic engagement where I closely observe and listen to what you bring and how you bring it. In doing so, we will consider and reflect on how your life experiences, social context, and inner world shape who you are, while I support you in discovering new ways to manage life's stresses, relate to others, and cultivate new ways of being that afford a fulfilling life.

This process is often deeply emotional, bringing marginalised and unthought aspects of your self into awareness and integrating them, aiding self-discovery as well as helping you work through the underlying causes of psychological suffering and relationship difficulties.

This process has helped many to:

  • enrich self-understanding

  • work through psychological difficulties, conflicts, dilemmas, and resistances

  • learn from experience

  • discover new ways to manage/process everyday stresses

  • navigate relationships and social interactions

  • nourish their capacity to grieve, let go, and change

  • deepen their ability to connect with and disconnect from others

  • work through attachment difficulties

  • live more congruently/fully

To do this, I draw on several psychodynamic and psychoanalytic understandings of human psychology, development, and technique all while grounding my practice in philosophy and ethics.

My Experience

I have been practising psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy since 2017. I have provided individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and clinical leadership and oversight for a multidisciplinary team for a group-based day programme. I have practised psychotherapy in private practice and at several organisations, including Dove Hospice, the Ashburn Clinic, and Whakamātūtū. In doing so, I have worked and had success with a diverse range of people struggling with an assortment of mental health difficulties and life struggles.

I have had training for most presentations. I have a particular interest in people struggling with the wake of traumatic experiences, neglect, and abuse; mood and anxiety difficulties; sense of home and belonging; grief and loss; perception and thought processes; and people who want to have a better understanding of themselves and want a more fulfilling life.

Outside of psychotherapy, I have a background in the performing arts, horticulture, hospitality, ESOL teaching, and early childhood education, and have lived abroad in South Korea and in Canada.
